Diorama |
Description |
This case holds a Diorama of Camp Coffee, a redoubt built by the Army, in 1874, during the time when there were few people in this area. Two of these posts, that we are apt to know about were Deep Hole Redoubt built on the Cimarron River, and the North Redoubt, Camp Coffee, six miles northwest of Ashland. These redoubts afforded shelter for soldiers. This Diorama shows something of the construction of the redoubt and while very primative offered shelter for the non-commisioned officers and at least 10 soldiers. These troops duty was to provide protection. |
