| This "Boot Jack" is made of a piece of wood 18 inches long, tapered from 4 inches at one end to 2 inches at the other. A "V" is cut at the wider end to hold the heel of the boot so the foot can easily be pulled out. A block of wood 2 inches in diameter and about 3 inches long is nailed with 3 large nails to the under side of board below the "V" cut. It was left in the old Sitka House built in 1886. Only one of the cattle brand carved on it is registered in the old Brand Book of 1887 and is that of Joe Winters. |
